Where did this claim come from?
Provenance
Provenance records the people, activities and source material involved in producing something. It helps you inspect how a result came to exist.
An everyday example
A forecast links to a dated input sheet, the calculation version, and the person who approved its use.
Original illustration, not an observed participant case.
Where the idea stops
A traceable source can still be wrong. Provenance supports investigation; it does not certify truth or authority.
Something to try
For a recommendation, record its source, date, transformation and decision owner. Mark gaps rather than guessing the missing history.
Practise on a fictional case →Go deeper: the builder’s view
For builders: preserve derivation and responsibility separately. In dialogue, record proposed goals and human choices without inventing hidden reasoning.
Source and interpretation
This is a plain-language interpretation with an applied example; it is not a quotation or an endorsement from the source.
